Do You Love Your Mother?

If you have been blessed with a caring, Godly mother, consider yourself most blessed!  You ought to find every way possible to honor that mother and to esteem her very highly for the legacy of love that she has given you.

What if your mother was not a Christian? Perhaps she made many mistakes in raising you and you are emotionally wounded in some area today. If you are a Christian, you are called to forgive her. You can still honor your mother and treat her with dignity and respect…just because she was your mother. God will bless you for doing that!

Showing genuine love for your mother will leave you with no regrets…later. We must learn to love our mothers while we can. T. DeWitt Talmage said it best….

Mother-love: Abuse cannot offend it, neglect cannot chill it; ;time cannot affect it; death cannot destroy it. For harsh words it has gentle chiding; for a blow it has beneficent ministry; for neglect it has increasing watchfulness.

Oh, appreciate a mother’s love. If you could only look in for an hour’s visit to her, you would rouse up in that aged one a whole world of blissful memories. What if she does sit without talking much; she watched you for months when you knew not how to talk at all.

What if she has ailments to tell about; during 15 years you ran to her with every little scratch and bruise and she doctored your little finger carefully as a surgeon would bind the worst fracture.

You say she is childish now; I wonder if she ever saw you when you were childish?

You have no patience to walk with her on the street; she moves so slowly. I wonder if she remembers the time when you were glad enough to go slowly.

We are all going to age and grow old. You will reap the same respect from your children that you have sown with your very own mother. Don’t make excuses for why you do not show love and respect to your earthly mother.
